The friend said: “He’s a very normal guy and they’d laugh a lot together, eat junk food and ignore the fact that her career was about to go stratospheric.” Adding that the break-up came about after Sturrock was reluctant to call Adele his “girlfriend”, the friend said they avoided “doing things as a couple” and being photographed together.
Adele has previously paid tribute to her ex, saying he “had the biggest impact on me” and “deserves a little credit” for inspiring her work.
She told US Vogue: “He was amazing…But it was never going to work.” She is now said to be happily living with new boyfriend Simon Konecki, a 36-year-old father and head of water charity Drop4Drop.
The source added: “It was such a volatile relationship and very passionate.
When things ended between them there was a lot of animosity and anger.” The magazine claims they finally broke up when Sturrock began seeing someone else in April 2009.
